The Body Reset Diet

For those of you that have been following Elle is for Love will probably be wondering…why a diet? I talk a lot about loving and accepting yourself, being confidant, but also finding a balanced and healthy lifestyle that works for YOU! So it would only make sense that I strive to do the same in my own life, right? I can’t talk the talk and not walk the walk, amiright? Well, let me share with you everything you need to know about the Body Reset Diet and why I decided to challenge myself to only drink smoothies for 10 days..!

The Body Reset Diet{ Why a cleanse }

I’ve been on a health and fitness journey since November 2016. Part of the goals that I have include weight loss, but I don’t like using ‘weight loss journey’ because I don’t want it to be just about that. I want to feel good, look good, be healthy and be strong. It’s not just about how I look but also how I feel inside. Even though I’ve come a long way (I’m almost down 2 dress sizes, have gained muscle mass) I haven’t seen the REAL results that I want. I’m not in the shape that I want to be and I’m still dealing with digestion issues that can be quite disruptive, especially when it comes to my sleep.

After finding out that after all the effort, I gained 3 lbs, I was UPSET. It took me a good 3-4 days to get over it and be my smiley self again. After an hour meltdown when I got home (thank goodness for a patient hubby…!) I needed to be honest with myself: have I really been as healthy as I could be? What am I willing to do to make the necessary changes to reach my health and fitness goals? What am I committed to doing to make REAL changes happen? By taking a hard look at my efforts and progress, yes, there’s more than I can do. Truth be told, there have been more ‘splurges’ than I would have liked, but that’s okay. You live and you learn. I don’t want to become rigid, I also want to enjoy life. But if I want to see more drastic results, which means that I’m going to have to buckle down, focus, and get it done.

After the more-than-usual splurges throughout the month of July and my digestion issues resurfacing, I decided that I needed to restart my body so that I have a clean slate to work with to get back on track with my goals. I heard about Harley Pasternak and saw a bit of his philosophy and approach on the Khloe Kardashian’s Revenge Body show (don’t judge me) and after reading the book, I decided that it was the right step for me to set myself up for success.

So what’s The Body Reset Diet you ask? It’s 3 phase approach to restart your system. The first phase consists of 3 smoothies per day (1 red smoothie, 1 white smoothie, 1 green smoothie) plus 2 snacks. Phase 2 consists of 2 smoothies and one meal, plus your 2 snacks. And phase 3 is 1 smothie, 2 meals and 2 snacks. Straightforward and the book explains the science behind it and provides all the recipes which is great!

The Body Reset Diet { How did it go? }

The first phase was the hardest. Not being able to eat meals and just having smoothies was more challenging than I expected. Day 2 and Day 4 were the hardest for some reason and I found myself getting cranky because I just wanted to eat. It’s interesting to observed how much our life revolves around eating and how eating is a habit.

Overall, I didn’t feel particularly hungry considering the smoothies were quite consistent and I had snacks in between meals. I think the hardest part was just not being able to eat meals and coming home after the gym having to drink a smoothie. The snacks helped but dang, I missed chewing!

{ The results }

I was happily surprised that I lost a total of 9 inches all over my body! It’s taking a bit of courage for me to share the measurements in the table below, but I want to be as transparent about the results as possible. I don’t have a scale at home so I don’t know how many pounds I lost, but I’m seeing my trainer today so I’ll see how much weight I lost since the last time I saw her (which was 3 weeks ago). My biggest goal is to lose body fat because that’s the unhealthy stuff I want to get rid of, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the test shows – it measures my muscle mass and body fat and a whole bunch of other things.

{ Final thoughts }

Even though I’m happy that I stuck through the program 100% and did notice a different in terms of my stomach and digestion, I don’t think that I would re-do this cleanse again. I see the benefits of switching to smoothies because I feel like it gives my stomach and digestive system a break while still feeding my body the right nutrients that it needs to function.

I think the most interesting part was observing the habits that I have around food and now I want to make sure that I try to change those – like being use to having something sweet a meal, even if it’s just dark chocolate, or wanting to snack in front of the tv or after dinner. These are all the habits that I think have held me back from reaching my goals so I’m going to make sure that I continue to be observe them when they come up and try to overcome them by replacing the habits with something more empowering!

On a final note, I have to admit that during the second phase of the cleanse, I totally got sick. Like, bed-ridden-I-can’t-move sick. I don’t know if it was because of the built up fatigue and doing too much that caught up to me, combined with stress and Aunt flow visiting, but as I’m writing this review, I am not well haha. It’s hard to say what caused it but I think that the cleanse might have lowered my immune system. I have to also admit that I didn’t follow the instructions for exercising – he recommends light exercise and I *KINDA* forgot that part and was still going to the gym full force last week, so that could have been another contributing factor. All that to say that I got a really bad cold and I’m not sure how this cleanse contributed to it.

Have you ever done a cleanse? If so, which one, and did you enjoy it? What are some of your health and fitness goals, if you have any?

I have read a lot about cleanses and diets, and it always comes down to the basics: Eat as little if any processed food, eliminate artificial sugar, reduced or even eliminate meat and dairy, reduce portions, and eat local. Basically, go back to what humans have been eating for tens of thousands of years, aka what our GI system is built for. Nuts, no???

Yes! Simplify what we eat is SO important – back to the basics!! Interesting how far away we’ve gone from what our ancestors used to eat

I’ve heard a lot about this diet! One of my colleague does it. It works well for her. I don’t think I could do it myself. I love smoothies but I tend to get bored of diets after a while… x

Well, I did the cleanse and even though it was tough, it really helped me get back on track and kick start my system!! If you commit to the first five days, those are the toughest and it REALLY pays off!!!
