In the spirit of pushing myself out of my comfort zone and wearing outfits that I usually shy away from, I decided to wear this simple long-sleeve cotton dress, and paired with the gold heel boots. I styled the look with this amazing burgundy hat that instantly elevates an outfit.

Here are a few easy tips on how to wear a dress in cold weather, which I will also be using, even though winter is coming (GoT reference anyone?):

{ Find the right tights }

I find tights uncomfortable, but these are from Primark and not only are they inexpensive, but they also hold really well so that I’m not tugging at them all the time! I love how opaque they are, and the thickness helps keep me warmer.

{ Booties }

Shoes make a huge difference in your outfit. With tights, make sure that there isn’t too much of a contrast with the color of the boots and the tights. Stick to the same tone and shade.

{ Accessories }

This is a recurring tip because it really makes a big difference in elevating an outfit. It’s as simple as putting on jewelry like cute earrings, bracelets and rings, or throwing a cute and scarf, especially to keep you warm!

Following these easy tips makes me want to wear dresses more often because if you think about it, it’s easier to throw on a dress and tights and accessorize your outfit, rather than matching your pants, top, and sweater, and all that jazz!

When you really think about, ‘style’ is a broad term that can be interpreted in many ways. To me, style is about what makes you feel good. Whether it’s the clothes and outfits you gravitate towards every day, or even your style of interacting with others that makes you feel the most comfortable. ‘Style’, broadly speaking, represents your individual take on everything in life, from your eating habits to your fashion style and everything in between.

When it comes to fashion, I strongly believe that every person can be stylish, and it doesn’t take a big budget or an elaborate outfit, because when it comes down to it, it’s about the focus on the details. Attention to detail makes a huge difference in everything, from the small gestures you do for your friends such as writing them a meaningful card or calling them to check up on them, to how you prepare and present a meal.

In any outfit, the details can be how you accessorize with jewelry, shoes, bags, hats and scarves, or the details in the pieces you wear. The outfit that I chose is simple – jeans and a tank top. But if you notice, the jacket has unique touches, combining a textured grey scale pattern with faux-leather sleeves (and we know how I love a nice faux-leather sleeve). The cut of the jacket is also flattering, with a unique collar that frames the face. The gold heels in my booties are the final little ‘wow’ factor that I love to add to an outfit?

What I’m trying to convey is that every single person can feel and look amazing, if you just make sure that you feel good in the outfit that you are wearing, and that you add unique touches, whether they seem small or not, they can elevate a simple outfit to represent your personality.

On a more ‘fun’ note, making a small change in your outfit like changing the style of shoes, you can transform an outfit into different looks. This is a great way to be more creative with what you have, because you will be constantly re-defining your wardrobe and you wont get bored!

The outfit I’m wearing is simple: jeans and a black top. The studded sandals gives the outfit an edgier yet laid back look, easy to wear on a day out shopping, or for a casual lunch over the weekend. These sandals have been a staple in my wardrobe because they can be worn with dresses, jeans, and shorts and are very versatile. 

With these leopard print sneakers, the look is a lot more casual, perfect to run errands or also for shopping or even traveling! When I have long days, I always opt for comfort, but these sneakers add a stylish touch to the outfit.

For a more chic look, throw on some fun heels! The trick is to find the right shoes to match the outfit. The jeans are cut off right at the ankle, so I can pull off strappy sandals like these ones. The orange also adds a fun pop of color to the outfit. This is one of the ways that you can take your outfit from day time to night time in one easy step!

The finishing touches like your shoes and accessories are really what pull a look together. For example, avoid too many big accessories with the sneakers, but stick to simple day-to-day necklace and bracelets. For a nighttime look, go ahead and add some arm candy and a chunky necklace to ‘elevate’ the look, and grab your favorite clutch while you’re at it! You can also play around with your hairstyle (if you have more patience than I do..!) as well as your makeup, especially to amp it up for a nighttime look!

I need to be even more aware of what I buy, and gradually get rid of things that I don’t use. Your possessions can become mental clutter, and the more I got rid of stuff, the more relieved I felt. I still have more that I can get rid of, which I will be doing as I settle into my new place.

On a more positive note, I realized (yes, it was a month of realizations) that I take really good care of my things, which is one of the reasons I have so much stuff. I still have clothes from 10 years ago that are still in amazing shape.

Small details in your outfit are what will make you stand out and develop your unique style. It doesn’t have to be very detailed, but simple elements in one or two pieces can make a drastic difference in your overall look.

It took me a while to find a piece with faux-leather details, and it took me courage to wear it because it draws more attention to your outfit. But look at it this way, fashion is a form of expression, and you can slowly get out of your comfort zone one step at a time. Faux leather sleeves first, and maybe eventually I’ll step it up even more with a full leather top!

All that to say….I love wearing military green because it’s surprisingly versatile and I just love the little fun touch that it gives to any outfit.

I have quite a few military green pieces in my wardrobe, but this vest has become one of my favorites because it’s so easy to throw on, and can transform a simple outfit to a more edgy and fresh outfit. I’m really just wearing a simple, black maxi dress, but the military green vest makes such a big difference in transforming the outfit into something fashionable that shows my personal style.

This vest can easily be worn with jeans and a simple top, with heels or flats.

An effective way to build your wardrobe is when you go shopping, to keep in mind the clothes you already have, so that whatever you buy complements whatever you already own. This is a great strategy to create a varied wardrobe and ensure that you don’t waste money on buying similar pieces.

There are some basic items that should be included in any wardrobe. A simple tee is versatile because it can be dressed up or down in the summer, or worn in the fall, with a sweater or blazer to keep you warm. You can wear it with jeans, a skirt, or shorts. The options are endless!

To make sure that I am getting my money’s worth, I look for pieces that have a nice fabric so that they keep their shape, or have a unique element to them, such as design or pattern, or a detail like a slit at the back. These details will add your own style in your outfit, unique to your personality!

I usually wake up in the morning with a clear idea of what I want to wear. But there are days where I am uninspired and just stand in front of my closet, blankly staring at my clothes. I find that those are the days where it’s even more important to push myself and take an extra few minutes to put together an outfit that will make me feel better.

Those are the days where you have to throw your favorite t-shirt or jeans so that you feel more empowered and you can hopefully go through the day with a smile on your face.

To help me build an outfit, I follow a simple formula so that I don’t have to over-think what I’m going to wear, and I always end up with something coherent.

{ 1. Choose your focal point }

Choose the main piece that you will build your outfit on. Choose something appropriate for the weather and the activity you will be doing, but make sure to pick something that you’re comfortable in but that also make you feel amazing.

{ 2. Add on }

From there, start adding on. If you chose bottoms, choose the top that will go with it. Same rules apply, choose something appropriate for the weather and activity, something comfortable, but something that makes you feel great. Don’t over-think it in terms of making a crazy combination, just stick to basics that you know work on your body and with the style you’re going for.

{ 3. Pick your shoes }

This shouldn’t be too hard, but make sure they’re comfortable! Your shoes are also an easy way that you can transform your outfit from something simple to something fun by throwing on a fun color or pattern.

{ 4. Accessorize }

Keep it simple or have fun! I have a few go-to pieces, but you can also play up an outfit by adding a statement necklace. It’s the little details that will make a difference in your outfit.

{ 5. Switch it up! }

One outfit can be used in different ways. Have fun with it and change details here and there to see what other looks you can create…if you have the patience!

I miss those days, where I was so carefree that a splash of pattern and pop of color didn’t intimidate me…until I reached my late teens and early 20s and I did everything to avoid drawing attention to myself. But now that I realize that by sticking to a monochrome wardrobe, I’ve been missing out on many beautiful pieces.

As a way to push myself and actually wear clothes other than black, I’ve found ways to incorporate prints into my outfits in a more subtle way. It’s easy to tame down a ‘loud’ print, or if you’re feeling courageous, you can totally play up the print and just have fun with it!

{ Tone it down }

To tame down a print or make the outfit more casual, simply pair it with neutral colors! You can’t go wrong with a white, black, gray or beige, depending on the print you’re wearing. Keep the rest of the pieces of your outfit simple, from your shoes to your jewelry. This way, the focus will be on the print, and the rest is just a plain canvas. For example, I played down the military print of the pants by pairing with a plain grey tee, a black sweater and black converses, with simple accessories.

{ Play it up }

If you’re feeling adventurous, pair the print with other fun and crazy pieces, keeping in mind the combination of fabrics, color and tone. To ensure that the outfit is coherent, make sure that they are all in a similar palette. For example, the military pattern is a rich green color, so I played it up with an equally rich color, fuchsia! To amp up the outfit, I threw on a pair of nude heels not to clash too much with the print and the pink.
