An elevated tee is an easy way to enhance a simple outfit. Look for pieces with interesting details, like a lace back, metallic accents, slits on the side, or a different fabric, like faux leather sleeves. Swapping your basics tee for an elevated tee will instantly enhance an outfit to something more unique, that’s even easier to dress up. Being stylish doesn’t have to be complicated! Small and simple tweaks can have a big impact.

It took me a while to find a piece with faux-leather details, and it took me courage to wear it because it draws more attention to your outfit. But look at it this way, fashion is a form of expression, and you can slowly get out of your comfort zone one step at a time. Whether it’s for fashion or beauty, it’s worth spending a bit more money for better quality, that will last longer and look better. I prefer having one or two amazing pieces, rather than 10 pieces that will fall apart within a few months. Spend a bit more on one purchase, and in the long-run, you don’t have to spend smaller amounts to replace something, which would accumulate to the same amount anyway.

The same goes for beauty: it’s better to invest in a few key items that usually require less product anyway, that are better quality, and that you will have fun using.

Here are my top 5 high-end products worth buying, because of the quality, the color pay-off, but also basic items to have in your beauty stash! These are products that I’ve purchased with time and I consider them as splurges.

Bronzer and blush add subtle color to your face and make you look livelier. This palette is great for the color payoff, the buttery texture, and the color choices. I’ve recommended this palette to a few people and they’ve loved it. And considering you get a bronzer, blush and highlighter, the price is reasonable!

Your eye makeup makes a difference in your overall look, even if you just apply an eyebrow highlight and a deeper crease color to define your eyes. Small touches go a long way, without having to overdo it or spend too much time on your eyes! One of my favorite palettes has been the Lorac Pro. A lot of beauty gurus and makeup artists swear by this palette, and for good reason: it’s buttery, the choice of colors is amazing, and the colors can easily be combined for a day or night look. If you are going to invest in one palette, this is the one that I would recommend!

Highlighter is one of my favorite parts of my beauty routine. A good highlighter makes a huge difference. This Becca highlighter in Opal is my latest addition to the collection, and I was obsessed after the first time I used it. It’s very pigmented and buttery, so there isn’t any fallout when you apply it on your cheekbones, and it’s a beautiful champagne color that adds a beautiful glow to your face.

A good concealer makes a HUGE difference in your makeup look. The NARS is a classic one because of its’ formula and coverage, and the applicator that makes it so easy to throw on in the morning.

I’ve been obsessed with this lip pencil since my boyfriend got it for me. It’s creamy, applies perfectly, and is an amazing day-to-day shade that goes with any makeup look and any outfit! I love this lipliner so much, and although it’s a bit pricey, I’ve made such good use of it. Apply some concealer, a bit of blush and this lipliner all over your lips, and you’re good to go!

Since my vegan challenge, I’ve been drawn towards vegan recipes. This recipe for Nutella breakfast cookie dough had me at Nutella. Chocolate and hazelnut is hands down my favorite flavor combination. Ask my best friend, Alexandra: she used to bribe me with a Nutella sandwich to go over to her place after school. It worked almost every single time.

I’ve been looking for a snack to make to eat while commuting back home for a boost of energy before my evening workouts. This seemed like the perfect solution! I’m realizing more and more how important it is to cook your own food at home, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or snacks. Not only do you save money but you also know exactly what you’re eating. There are times that it’s easier to buy pre-made to have food at home as back up, but I’m going to try and make my own snacks and meals even more than before because I’ve seen the benefits of eating healthier.

When it came to buying the ingredients for this recipe, I realized that hazelnuts are really hard to find nowadays, because apparently the crops have been ravaged. #Fail. Instead of Nutella, I used a Deliciously Ella’s recipe for healthy Nutella, but replaced hazelnuts with almonds, which is why I ended up with chocolate almond energy balls instead. It’s still very tasty, but I think the hazelnut would be a 100 times better. In the energy balls, I used ground flaxseed instead of protein powder, and accidentally bought wheat bran instead of oat bran…oups.

These chocolate almond energy balls turned out amazing. They’re very easy to make, a lot less expensive and healthier than buying protein or energy bars, and such an easy snack before or after a workout, or even in the afternoon as a pick-me-up!

Although I don’t follow all fashion trends, I get excited when there’s one that I love, because that means I will find it in almost any store and there will be many different options! It’s interesting to see what new trends come out every season, but I try to remember to stay true to myself, because not every trend will suit my body or personal style, or even my budget.

All that to say….I love wearing military green because it’s surprisingly versatile and I just love the little fun touch that it gives to any outfit.

I have quite a few military green pieces in my wardrobe, but this vest has become one of my favorites because it’s so easy to throw on, and can transform a simple outfit to a more edgy and fresh outfit. I’m really just wearing a simple, black maxi dress, but the military green vest makes such a big difference in transforming the outfit into something fashionable that shows my personal style.

This vest can easily be worn with jeans and a simple top, with heels or flats.

My vegan health challenge for 22-days went so much better than anticipated. I learned new recipes, which I’m excited about, like this breakfast chia seed pudding, perfect for a hot summer morning.

I was a bit hesitant to try this recipe because of what it looks like, but it’s delicious! I love finding easy, quick and healthy recipes to add to my repertoire because it simplifies my morning routine.

A recurring ‘lesson’ in my life has been to not judge something before trying it, whether it’s related to food, trying a fashion trend, or even putting myself in a new and challenging environment. These are the experiences, whether you perceive them as small or big, that end up being the most important in life because you grow as a person from them.

Now back to the chia seed breakfast pudding. It’s really quite simple: use ½ cup chia seed (ground chia seeds works just as well), with 2 cups of a liquid of your choice. It can be any form of milk (cow, goat, almond, cashew, soy). That’s the basis of it, and the rest, just have fun with it! You can sweeten it a little bit, add some vanilla or any other extract that you like, and top it off with fruits and nuts! It’s a versatile recipe.

{ Ingredients }

½ cup chia seeds

2 cups almond milk

{ Optional Add-ons }

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tbsp maple syrup

{ Other Alternatives }

Cashew or soy milk, or regular milk

Coconut milk

1 tbsp Honey

A dash of cinnamon

Other extracts such as almond or mint (I would recommend 1 tsp)

Unsweetened cocoa powder

{ Toppings }

  • 1-2 cups fruits (banana, strawberries, raspberries, diced peaches, mango)
  • 1-2 tbsp of nuts (pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, slivered almonds)
  • 1 tbsp Hazelnut or almond butter

{ Instructions }

Mix the chia seeds with your liquids and the additions. Let it rest over night, or for 20 minutes.

Top with your choice of fruits and/or nuts!

Over the past year, I’ve been trying to create healthier lifestyle habits, from eating better to exercising consistently, to managing stress better. Although I am not a nutritionist, therapist or personal trainer, I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can from the resources available to me. Although I still have room for improvement, I am already proud of the changes and will continue to learn and improve.

Thursday blog posts will be dedicated to healthy food ideas. ‘Healthy’ doesn’t necessarily have to mean ‘boring’ but can be full of flavor and nutritious, leaving both your body and mind satisfied. In an effort to create a balanced life, there will also be some indulgences.

To kick off this series, let’s start with the first meal of the day: breakfast! There are just some days where I stay in bed until the very last second, and this banana oat bar is the perfect solution to make sure I still have a healthy breakfast. I just leave the whole batch in the freezer and microwave it for about 30 seconds.

My cousin (who’s a nutritionist) replaced the yogurt with mashed lentils, and I couldn’t taste the difference! I will probably try and reduce the sugar and even replace some of it with honey, but overall, this is a great and easy recipe that I am definitely going to make again!
